Visaa State Meet

The swim season has officially come to a close. I am still blown away by how fast it went, and how much I came to enjoy my time as "Coach". I distinctly remember crying to Brad about having to coach the swim team when all I wanted to do was spend my afternoons with Cyrus. Now, I can't imagine not coaching, and this team in particular. I am so proud of these kids and what they accomplished this season. I am already looking forward to the beginning of next season and getting them in shape to bring home the gold again.

At the state meet, the girls fully and completely destroyed all the other teams, by over 100 points (which doesn't happen all that often in a swim meet). There were 14 other teams representing all the Independent schools within the state of Virginia that have a competitive swim team. This meet in particular brought back my Swim Florida days in a big way. Prelims were from 8 - 1 each day, then we'd grab a quick lunch with the kids and send them home to sleep/rest before Finals in the evenings which started at 4. I would use that time between prelims and finals to get a nice long run in which helped to keep me energized and focused. Finals each evening was intense. The notable races that stick out in my head were the 500 Free where Mary Katherine Kish won by a long shot, and actually lapped one of the swimmers at Finals. Also, the 200 Medley and 400 Free relays were intense and fast! It was cool to watch.

The boys fared well too. They finished 5th in the state which wasn't all that unexpected as it's a small team. We have some FAST seniors that will be graduating this year and taking the majority of the talent with them. The next few years will be building years for the boys again as we continue grooming some of the younger boys and patiently await their growth spurts :)

The VISAA meet was phenomenal all and all and I was glad to be a part of it.
