Spring Break 2012 started with getting Dolores up and running. We have been "those neighbors" who have had a dead car in front of our house since June. We just haven't had the time or money to invest in her and truthfully, when I bought "Bobby" from Dad I didn't see any reason to fix her. I was thinking that we would just donate her to a veteran and be done with it. Brad had other plans. He thought we should get her running and sell her for a few thousand bucks. She is a 1997 Subaru Outback from Colorado but she only has 100,000 miles on her. Subarus are known to run FOREVER if they are in good working order. As a matter of fact, one of my good friends in high school had a hatchback that had 400,000 miles on it! And, with the cost of gas going up exponentially, Brad wants to get her running so he can drive her around town and save his truck for weekend endeavors. Makes sense to me.
So, AAA came and towed her away on a snowy Monday morning. Glass Masters was supposed to come and replace her cracked windshield before sending her to Midas. But, with the snow, the windshield needs to be done inside. So, we sent her to Midas first. They ran a diagnostic test on her and determined that the battery and the alternator were bad:( She also needed new tires as she had (essentially) bald snow tires on. She had to get a VA inspection and an oil change for a whoping $900 bucks:)
This morning, we will pick her up and drive her to Glass Masters to finish off the windshield and she'll be like a whole new car!! I want to get a car bra for the front of her to cover up the small area of chipped paint on the bumper (from constant rocks and sand from snowy CO driving) and she'll look brand new. I love this car. I've had it for years!!! So excited to have her back and running. Now, we're that obnoxious family with 3 cars. However, 2 are paid off and we've only got a few thousand left on Brad's truck so that's a good thing:)
