Creighton and I ran the Xterra 21K Trail race on Saturday morning. Neither one of us had trained a stitch for this race so we went into it as a long lovely trail run rather than a race. It really was a great race which started on Brown's Island, ran over the Mayo Bridge to Manchester Bridge, up and over the Mayan Ruins, dumped down onto Buttermilk trail (lots of up and down on single track) and over to Forrest Hill Park where we took TWO loops through that trail system. This one was tough, lots and lots of up up up up, and it was tough going around it twice but it was fun nonetheless. After the second loop on Forrest Hill, we ran through the irrigation drainage ditches back onto Belle Isle and ran along the James for a few miles hoping over rocks, roots, and logs. We crossed the James by rock hopping and up an old iron ladder to get back onto the island. The finish took us over the James on the Pedestrian bridge and back to Brown's Island. Creighton and I stayed together the whole time, and I'm glad. He started failing a bit in the middle but came back strong and I started failing a bit at the end (the last 2-3 miles) and he helped push me through. It was certainly a great race and next year I would like to train for it a bit and try to race it a little more:)
