Project Athena Trail Marathon Race!

Creighton, his friend Don, a woman named Karen, and myself competed in the Project Athena Marathon Relay today.  Project Athena's motto is helping survivors live their adventurous dreams (http://www.projectathena.org/index.phpzz). It's a good cause and a good excuse to race.
Creighton and I have done a number of races together since I moved to VA and he's a good partner for me but we needed a team of 4. Don works out with him on Seal Team and is comparable in pace but we had a hard time finding a fourth person. Most of our people were out of town or busy so we got assigned Karen from Norfolk. She had a bit of a slower pace than the rest of us but after talking about it we decided that it would be fine and we were doing it more for fun than anything else.
The course was nice, a good mix between road and trails, and the length was just a bit shy of a 10K. Karen took the first leg in a time of 1:11, Don was next with 56 mins, I took the third leg in 49 mins, and Creighton was the closer at 54 mins....happily, we broke 4 hours and had a great race. It was HOT and I mean hot. About a mile from the end I started getting goose bumps really badly which is never a good sign in 100* heat.
I did enjoy it though and would love to do more races/adventures with Project Athena in the future!
