Week number 4 is under my belt with 45 miles this week. Whew! It is hard to fit these runs in for sure but I am doing the best that I can with it. I am loving it now. I am running 5 days a week and swimming one, on Mondays. My long run this week with Creighton was 16.5, all on roads. We ran 15.5 on trails last week and it wore us both out. This week was better. The problem is that the race happens to be on trails. It just takes it out of you on a completely different level. There is never the opportunity to settle into a pace and relax into the run because I always have to be alert to the roots and rocks trying to trip me. Creighton took a nasty tumble last week and was ok but the last thing either one of us wants to do now is twist, strain, or break anything. The long run this week averaged out about 9:12 per miles which also included a couple aid stops so we were moving at a good pace, a little too quickly actually. We're trying to hold 9:00 per mile on the long runs so we don't push our bodies too hard but we're both so comfortable at an 8:15/8:20 pace that it almost takes more effort to hold back. Either way, I am enjoying the training. I spent a number of my runs this week working on my spanish while I was running, that was fun. I was running around Mooreland Farms saying, "Entiendo un poco de espanol, pero no hablo muy bien" :) I am the queen of multi-tasking!!
